Of course the HD version of youtube can take much longer to load the same clip, when we tested it the loading time was near 15 minutes longer ona 1 minute long video (Ouch!)

The other two problems are, you cannot at this time choose full screen mode form the embedded video, you have to go to the google video pages AND this is extremely processor intensive, so make sure you have a decent PC specced up before attempting to run HD YouTube!

Apart from that however the High Definiton youtube videos are clear and sharp, it is very easy to do and the entire one line of this how to enable HD YouTube explained that!

So please, use this how to enable hd youtube guide and anjoy your high definition you tube videos now!

Google Chrome is Googles second foray into the world of Internet browsing software. Google Chrome itself was released yesterday and is available to download on the google website at http://www.google.com/chrome for free. The best thing about the new Google Chrome web browser is undoubtedly its new Back End, unlike nearly all other internet browsers Chrome has the unique feature of running each tab and window with its own process, this has several significant benefits.

Memory Usage

Browsing Speed

Crash Protection (Not Recovery)

Visual Management

Security

So lets take a more indepth look at this brand new web browser. As the graph shows Google Chrome is by far one of the fastest running browsers available. Although some may argue that currently this is down to Chrome having next to no additional features it is hard to deny that its new multi process backend is having a significantly positive effect on performance. Web pages load quickly and smoothly, with few errors.Javascript performance is also incredibly advanced in chrome, the following graph tested by CNet Australia shows quite simply staggering results. In every single test Google Chrome shows outstanding Java results. This means that for teh majority of sites you load you will see a heavily increased performance with significantly reduced loading times.

Memory Usage Memory Usage is Google Chromes next big advantage. Because Chrome uses several processes and therefore independent memory blocks whenever you close a window or tab google will completely kill that process and the memory block it used. Compare this to current browsers where no matter how many windows you open and close the browser has just one memory blog it modifies. This unfortunately means that slowly but surely the amount of memory used grows as fragments of data do not get cleared when you close a window or tab. This is why after 5 hours of using Firefox or IE you may find memory consumption reaching 400MB even though you only have one page open, with Chrome your computer will openly be loading the memory it requires for what you have open.

Crash Protection Chrome has fantastic crash protection. Because Chrome has a single process for each and every window or tab if an error occurs in one window or tab it will ONLY affect that window or tab if you have several tabs in one window. This is great news for anyone who has seen one website error cause 40+ tabs to shut down at the same time losing your work, research and more. This also would tend to happen in the past when one would use a poor PDF converter tool, that didn’t always operate efficiently.

Visual Management Because Chrome has a process for each tab you open it means that the tabs can be moved from window to window, converted into a new window or simply re-arrange them with very little fuss. re-organisation of tabs uses only a few kilobytes of memory as it affects only a few functions! The amount of versatility in this does not sound that good until you try it, I suggest you give it a go today!

Security By separating processes Google Chrome allows you to section off a browser window to be fully secure. In this window no personal data is passed into your machine, protecting you from data theft and fraud! These security windows keep what you surf and what information you enter private. So why do I hate this fantastic browser? Well it is in beta, there is no available addon management even though it is open source and I cannot, no matter how hard I try, make this my default browser!! Hopefully though a few weeks will turn the Google Chrome Web Browser into a 100% stable and addon compatible internet Browser!

Windows Vista is a rather sleek operating system. But like many Windows products Vista’s main downfall is the huge number of generic programs and options that are scattered within its Control Panel. Most of the se Vista Options Can be Changed to Speed up your computer for free!

First Things First.

In Windows there a fair number of programs that sit in the background and for most people will do absolutely nothing. This includes things like Fax tools, Tablet PC Compatibility, UNIX Application Compatibility and the like.

These can easily be disabled by going to your control panel and clicking ‘Uninstall or Change a Program’. In the Tasks Pane on the left you will see a text link called ‘Turn Windows Features On or Off’

This will bring up a list of basic windows programs that are automatically loaded with windows. Disabling these can speed up both your Windows Vista Startup Time and Vista overall performance.

Once you have done this you can take a more in depth look at the programs starting with windows. To do this click the start button and type services.msc

Here you will see a list of more detailed services on your computer, these can be harder to decipher, but most have good descriptions. If you see something that you are not too sure of then you can usually find an answer by having a quick search on google for its program name. In nearly all cases though you can disable things such as Windows Error Reporting, tablet PC Input, Remote Registry and Distributed Link Tracking Client.

Be careful what you disable however as there are some integral services that are required for Vista to run on these lists. It is a good idea to keep track of what you disable so you can re-enable it if required!

Another good place to check for erroneous startup items is in MSConfig. Again, you find this by clicking start and typing msconfig. A box will come up (The same as in Windows XP)

To speed up your windows boot time here you can click on startup and remove any programs that you do not want loading automatically with windows.

Disabling these will not disable the program, it just means it will load when it is needed, not on Vista Startup. This will greatly increase your loading speed.

Readyboost is the next feature you MUST look at to experience a much faster boot times for Vista. Readyboost is a unique Vista feature that turns any USB flash device into ‘extra memory’. While it will not be as fast or as effective as internal memory it will help speed up your computer at a relatively cheap price!

This will not only increase the speed windows loads but it will also increase the overall performance of your PC!

The Easiest way to do it is to get a program such as WindowBlinds This has a free version available but using this may cause errors, it is way easier to shell out a rather mediocre $20.
Once you have installed WindowBlinds you can start the fun, download the Free Vista Transformation Pack Here And follow the Instruction.

Converting XP to look like Vista has several benefits. Firstly you get all of Vista’s sleek looks with none of its slow speeds, giving you what feels like a faster Vista, you also have none of the compatability issues of Vista, meaning you can use all your old games and software in a Vista style environment!

There is a downside though, many users have reported problems when trying to remove the Vista looks and revert to XP, there have been reports of DLL errors, these can be replaced if the worst comes to the worst, but it is an annoyance.

Overall I think this conversion is amazing, I now use it on one of my PCs and it runs smoother and faster than any Vista Machine I have ever used.

We have never recommended using Transformation packs. The transformation packs now are being built with intense care and most of them come with an uninstall feature. So, if anything goes wrong you can get rid of a transformation pack just as if you would uninstall iTunes.

Convert Windows into Apple Leopard OSX:

If you want to convert windows into Mac Leopard, this Leopard transformation pack is must have for you. You will have to download the Transformation pack, install it and enjoy the Mac look on Windows. There is also another Transformation pack that will convert Windows into Mac OSX. It is called FlyaKiteOSX. It skins almost everything in XP to match the looks of Mac OS. If you are a Linux user you would like to install Mac4Lin. It somewhat does a similar job of making your PC look like Mac but is for Linux only.

Some people can’t still decide whether they want to stick to Windows XP or upgrade to Vista. Both have advantages and disadvantage. The biggest disadvantage of Vista being resource hungry and advantage of having eye candy. With the Vista transformation pack, you will have the best of both worlds, speed of XP and eye candy of Vista.

Do you love Fedora but work with software that are not compatible with Linux. Or do you think Linux is for geeks and you exclude yourself from them.Fedora transformation pack will turn your current windows XP into Fedora Linux and you can still run all those programs.

There have been time when I have to wait for atleast 5 minutes for my PC to shut Down so that I could pull the Power Strip. But not anymore. It now takes me at the most 3 second to shut it down. It depends a lot on the System resources and the number of software you have installed on your PC. But here I am not going to tell you to upgrade your PC, buy more RAM or even uninstall all those unnecessary programs. What I am going to show you is a simple trick using which you can Shut down your PC in under 5 seconds.

For Windows 2000 and XP users:

For all those Windows users who still have Windows 2000 or windows XP installed on their computers, you will need to download a software called User Profile Hive Cleanup Service. This software is developed by Microsoft and it completely terminates all the user sessions when a user logs off. Sometime System processes and applications maintain connections to registry keys in the user profile after a user logs off which eventually delays the Shut Down process. This software reduces those delays, making the system shut down quickly. There is also a software, Quick ShutDown which gives you the ability to quickly shutdown, reboot, hibernate, logoff, standby or lock your computer with a single mouse click. It has an ability of instantly terminating programs that aren’t responding and thus helps in quick shut down.

For Windows Vista user:

To decrease the shut down time in Windows Vista, you will need to tweak your Registry entries (I mean! aaa… Your Computer’s). It is advisable to first create a back up of your of your computer’s Registry.

Go to start menu.

Type regedit and hit enter

Go to ‘File menu’ and select ‘Export’.

Enter a File Name and Click ‘Save’.

After making a backup of our Registry we can now Edit the required Registry Entries.

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER >> Control Panel >> Desktop

You will see WaitToKillAppTimeout on the right pane of the window. Double Click it and change the value to anything between 1000 and 2000. Remember the more less the number, the less time it will take to shut down your PC. When you have completed doing this, click OK.

Thats all. Your PC should now Shut down quickly as ever. If you would like to add something I have missed, let me know in the comments below.

If you are under the impression that there is only rel=”nofollow” tag, you are about to learn many more of them.
I have come across these tags which I never knew existed. I was familiar with only couple of them like rel=”nofollow” and rel=”me”. I use ‘nofollow’ attribute quite regularly, for every single outgoing link. But with these tags I can indicate the search engines exactly what kind of page I am Linking to.

Rel=”Nofollow”

Almost all webmasters should be familiar with this attribute. It lets you you tell the search engines not to pass Link juice to the linked article/ Post or Website.
Example:
<a href="http://www.geekywood.com/" rel="nofollow">Tech Gadgets</a>.

Rel=”me”

If you link to your profiles at any social network from your website/ blog, then instead of using rel=”nofollow” to the links,
use rel=”me” attribute. It tell the Search engines that the linked page belongs to me and is my profile.
Example:
<a href="http://geekywood.stumbleupon.com/" rel="me">MY SU profile</a>

Rel=”Tag”

I have seen so many WordPress sites using plugins that automatically link related text used in a blog post to a Tag page and others link manually. If you do that, you should stop the practice because Google hates duplicate content. And when you link to ‘Tag’ page, you refer Google or any other search engine to Duplicated content. Instead you should use Rel=”tag” tag to the linked text. This tells Search Engines that the anchor text used is a tag used to easily find the page and should be used as a keyword.
Example:
<a href="http://www.geekywood.com/tags/SEO" rel="tag">SEO</a>

Rel=”Bookmark”

Bookmark is a link to a key entry point within an extended document. Using this tag to link to your Permalinks in blog posts
helps Search engines identify the main page or original content page.
Example:
<a href="http://www.geekywood.com/2007/11/web-hosting-and-digg-effect.html" rel="Bookmark">Digg proof Hosting</a>

Rel=”License”

This tag can be used to link to licenses of the current page or article. When you use rel=”license” attribute to the outgoing link, it indicates to the Search Engines that the destination of that link is the License of current page.
Example:
<a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/" rel="license">Some Rights Reserved</a>

Rel=”directory”

By adding this attribute to the hyperlink, you indicate to the search engines that the destination of the link is a directory listing containing an entry for the current page. It can be used when some Directories want a reciprocal link from your site to get featured in the Listing.
Example:
<a href="http://www.blogcatalog.com/directory/computers/hardware/modding" rel="directory">Modding Directory</a>

Rel=”Payment”

This attribute is used in the links when you are linking to a site that accepts payment. If you accept donation on your site via PayPal, you should use this attribute in the outgoing link.
Example:
<a href="http://www.amazon.com" rel="payment">Buy this e-book</a>

Hope this article helps you. A point worth noting here is that all the above tags work with Google but others like MSN or Ask.com may or may not consider the attributes like the Google does.

When Digg got a Redesign in August, previous year, the community got so much upset with the friend submission page. There was no ‘Digg it’ button on the Friend submissions page. What this meant was, you had to individually open every submission of your friend if you wanted to Digg it. Many Digg users, myself included, got upset and some even gave up using Digg. But thanks to GreaseMonkey and Firefox (don’t tell me that you still use IE), that ‘Digg it’ button can again be had with a simple user script. You will get the ‘Digg it’ button back at the button of every submission of your friends. This will definitely save you hours of time daily (Of course, if you use digg the whole day that is). First you should have Firefox installed (Greasemonkey also works in IE, Download it here), then Download and install Greasemonkey. Restart your browser and go to this user script page and click Install this Script. You should be done. Now go to http://digg.com/users/YourUserNameHere/friends/submissions page and digg you friend submissions easily.

Here is how the Friend Submission page will look:

The position of the ‘digg it’ button looks weird, but it is still usable.

When Microsoft developed Vista, they forgot that with so much of eye candy, it will become bulky and may even take minutes if not hours, to run simple processes like paint or Word. But thank god, a little bit of tweaking, and your Windows vista will again run smoothly. These are some of the tips that will help you to speed up vista and run the regular programs without any problem.

Unclutter Your Hard Drive

Like me, you may have installed one software or the other at some time when you needed it, but no longer use it. It makes sense to uninstall those unnessasary software and free up as much hard disk space as you can. You can use CCleaner for that purpose which is faster and more useful than Vista’s default Add/Remove application.

Turn Off Unnecessary Services

Some processes in Vista and other Windows operating systems start at every boot up, without you even knowing. These delay the boot time and thus decrease the performance of your system. The biggest thing is, some of them are unnecessary. So, they can be disabled to increase performance of Vista.

To disable them, go to Start > Run, type services.msc and hit ENTER. Double-click on the service you want to get rid of and change the startup type to Disable. You can disable almost any Service there, but make sure that you don’t disable the following services:

    * Superfetch
* Task Scheduler
* Windows Audio
* Multimedia Class Scheduler
* Plug and Play
* Windows Driver Foundation.

Keep Your Memory Clear

Use the free application Instant Memory Cleaner to free as much of the physical memory as can be possible. And remember the golden rule of speed, “less clutter means more speed”.

Defragment Your Hard Drive

You may have heard about this quite a large number of times, but this is true. De fragmentation increases the performance of hard disk and thus making Vista run quickly and smoothly. You you have ever tried to defrag your hard disk, you may have noticed that many of the features with disk defragmenter which were present in XP are missing in Vista. So you can try a better defragmenter called Disk Defrag, which gives you a nice drive map and other advanced features.

Use ReadyBoost

ReadyBoost is one of the best features in Vista. It uses a solid state memory disk as an extra disk memory cache.

To take advantage of ReadyBoost, find the fastest USB flash drive you can find and plug it in. AutoPlay will pop up a dialog offering to use it for ReadyBoost. Just enable it and you’re done.

Use vLite

vLite disables many of Vista’s default system components like Windows Media Player, Windows Mail, Windows Photo Viewer, MSN components, Wallpapers and SlideShow.

Using vLite will save chunks of disk space, but the changes it makes to your machine are permanent, so use it if you know what you are doing.

Get Rid of Eye Candy

Vista’s snazzy UI design is easy on the eye but hard on the processor. But you don’t need to empty your pockets and buy new hardware. Give these tips a try first and see if they improve your Vista experience.

    * Get rid of Aero – Go to the Window Color and Appearance panel (right click the desktop and choose personalize) and click the link to “Open classic appearance properties for more color options. Select an option other than Aero.

    * For a less radical option just turn off the “glass transparency” setting which seems to be the source of much of Aero’s memory usage.

    * Another less-drastic solution is to turn off the animations and other visual effects.

    * Disable the Sidebar — Widgets are memory hogs and getting rid of them will help speed up Vista.

Update regularly

This is the most essential tip. You should always update all your drivers and software not only in Windows Vista but also in all other operating systems.

Use RAM Boosters

RAM Booster Pro v5.0.1 will automatically free up your RAM without the need to restart your PC. For example if you have just ended playing Call of Duty 4 and you system seems it is a Pentium 2 PC, just run this software and free up the used RAM and boost the system performance.

Use GameThrust

This is a Paid software. GameThrust will boost the performance of your system and also of the internet connection. You can optimize its setting to get the most of your PC. You still get a trial to check this software before you buy.
