The Digg Effect - Apologies for Site Downtime

To all my loal reader (s) I would like to apologise for the recent downtime on this site, it seems Servage are not as Digg-Proof as I currently thought as I found a warning and a site suspended email in my inbox when I returned from work a couple of days ago.

Yes it seems I was hit by the Digg Effect -  Although in this case at the instigation of Slashdot.

It seems my Article on Google Chrome was quite popular.

In the matter of 10 minutes my site was hit by 30,000 unique visitors and suspended by servage, after that in… Continue Reading»

Googel ChromeGoogle Chrome is Googles second foray into the world of Internet browsing software.

Google Chrome itself was released yesterday and is available to download at http://www.google.com/chrome for free.

The best thing about Google Chrome is undoubtedly its new Back End, unlike nearly all other internet browsers Chrome has the unique feature of running each tab and window with its own process, this has several significant benefits.

  • Memory Usage
  • Browsing Speed
  • Crash Protection (Not Recovery)

Number 1 iPhone 3G Custom Software

Dictaphone for iPhoneThe iPhone 3G has been out for only a week and yet already there has been a slew of iPhone 3G software released for the iPhone 2 3G. The software varies from the mundane to the wacky, but this Dictaphone Utility for the iPhone 3G is in my opinion one of the most inovative I have seen!

The Dictaphone tool for the iPhone 3g lets you record a voice track onto your iPhone 3G and then (This is the clever part) can transcribe it to text and either save it onto… Continue Reading»

400GB Blu-ray Disks!

Pioneer Blu-ray 400GBPioneer have today announced that they are working on (And can demonstrate) a 400gb Blu-ray like disk.  While not yet compatible with current bluray technology it does use very simlar techniques, for this reason they are hoping to make it backwards compatible.

This could be yet another nail in the coffin for current blu-ray technology which has found itself failing to compete with DVD’s and Internet based media. But maybe with the advent of HD (High Density) DVD its a little early to be thinking about HHD (Higher High… Continue Reading»

Projector for Your Cellphone

Cellphone ProjectorKorea Electronics Technology Institute has revealed today it is developing a 4 ounce projector device for cell phones.  This seems a very positive move from the flexible screen tv that many other companies are looking into.

The current Alpha model of teh ibuilt phone device can create a 60 inch clear image from 6 feet away, quite a feat for such a small device!

I do however get the feeling it will destroy battery life!

KETIS Eye Glass Display technology is a vast improvement over the nearest competition in the portable projector… Continue Reading»

14 Hour Laptop Battery Life!

Fuel Cell ComputerI have just seen the review of the latest long life fuel cell for laptops. THis protootype is designed for military use, but carries a stunning 14 hour battery life at surprisingly little cost!

Now I don’t know about you, but 2 years after I bought my laptop the battery life skimmed itself down to around half an hour, it slowed itself down and the heat from the battery was immense.

The new 14 hour Methanol Fuel Cell battery only gives out 25 watts of power, but then you… Continue Reading»
