For those of you who don’t know, CSS3 has been in development for some time and browsers such as Firefox, Chrome, and Safari have kept at the cutting edge of this technology for years. However Internet Explorer has refused to include any CSS3 compatibility in it’s last two releases, much to the annoyance of the thousands of web developers who love to use the gradients and radial curves which CSS3 allows.

The Good news is that IE9 has finally been released as a BETA version, and it not only supports CSS3, but it has also had vast improvements made in both performance and reliability.

The bad news is that you need Vista SP2 and up to be able to use this late runner to the CSS3 party.

This has left a huge number of web developers, myself included, with a fairly big dilemma. Should we keep trying to support the legacy IE 6, 7, and 8 browsers, non of which have CSS3 support, but all of which remain in use by a large percentage of the population. According to W3 schools over 30% of the population use internet explorer, and 7% of internet users still use IE6, despite the fact that it is insecure, and incompatible with most of the internet as we see it today.

The overwhelming consensus appears to be a resounding ‘no’. Many web developers are finally taking a stand against IE’s lack of compatibility, and now that there is finally an IE 9 release which supports CSS3, many web developers are now refusing to spend three times the amount of time it would normally take, just to keep a website looking good in IE legacy browsers.

This is bad news for Microsoft since many websites which once would have used various tweaks to make CSS3 look good in IE 6, IE 7 and IE 8 will now simply direct a user to a page telling the visitor to download Firefox, Chrome, Safari, or many of the other underdog browsers which have still managed to keep up with the latest CSS3 technology, despite having a millionth or Microsoft’s budget.

In the big picture though, I really am looking forward to seeing some fantastic website designs created with the help of CSS3, and with the dawn of HTML 5 (Also supported by IE9) I am hoping that web developers everywhere will soon be able to have full creative freedom when creating a website, without having to worry about the Internet Explorer problem.

Blogging, once relatively unknown has recently taken the world by storm, people from countries around the globe have begun to release blogs on the internet, be they personal or for profit.

Hell, lets face it, this website is a blog, most of my other websites are blogs and a lot of people I know have a blog of one sort or another. But then it comes to customising your blog, how do you make it stand apart from the others and how so you make your blog look better than just the bog standard.

The answer is quite simply blogger templates, and to make life easier for any of you guys who might be searching for free blogger templates I have decided to compile a list of my top five free three column blogger templates, courtesy of Free and Easy Blogger Templates

My first free template is a clean and simple three column blogger template.

This may not seem like a particularly impressive blog template to host on my top five blogger templates, but it is surprisingly hard to find minimalistic three column blogspot templates nowadays, and this one fits the bill perfectly!

This is one of the best blogger templates in my opinion, its friendly layout, well spaced three columns and perfectly set out areas for your links, text and adverts make this by far one of my favorite blogs.

On top of the three columns this also has a footer space and a top navigation bar to help stop your sidebars from becoming cluttered, an all too common problem with blogger.

My second choice in my top ten blogger templates is this Adsense optimized blogger template. This template is well laid out and created specifically for webmasters to have adequate advertising space and Adsense blocks!

This Blogger template is a great choice for anyone wanting to earn money from Blogger!

My third favorite free blogger template has to be this amazing blogger technology template.

This gorgeous looking blogger template hold a great deal of room and flexibility while remaining relatively uncluttered. The two top navigation bars mixed with a three column layout gives you a great deal of flexibility.

This blogger template can be a pain to install sometimes, and does require a lot of customization, but all in all I would say it was easily worth it for the benefits it provides.

I can’t help but admit how I fell in love with this striking cityscape blogger template the first time I saw it. This unique blogger template is one of the few available to include a staggered column layout that gives this template a unique interesting look to your website. This look is pretty much guaranteed to draw visitors into your website!

My final free three columned template is in with the season, this minimalistic seasonal autumn blogger template drew me in instantly with its bright colourful design, yet warm soothing colour connotations.

This amazing free autumn blogger template boasts three columns but no navigation bar. Fortunately the lack of top based navigation bar does nothing to clutter this smooth minimal interface on this gorgeous seasonal blogger template.

This template is now in use on a couple of my blogger websites as it really does fit the season, and peoples moods perfectly!

Now however Metaversum have begun to trial the virtual reality Twinity, a bridge between the real and the virtual by allowing you to visit real world locations walk the streets of the cities and see some of the worlds most famous landmarks.

It is true that this will never replace the real experience of visiting a city, but I can see a billion uses of Metaversum’s Twinity. Finding hotels you would like to visit, checking out monument locations, seeing if tourist attractions really are as good as advertised. An of course walking around the Twinity virtual world for an hour or two will give you some familiarity with a city that you plan to visit.

As some of my readers may know I love to travel, and I would be lying if i said I had not got lost in pretty much every city I have visited, my sense of direction is not so much bad as appalling.

Either way I am very tempted to download this as soon as it comes out, as the first city they are going to release on the Metaversum Twinity platform is Berlin, somewhere I hope to visit next year!

On top of being able to see the virtual worlds you will also be able to meet other people interested in seeing the same locations as yourself, this suddenly gives a new scope for finding travelling partners who have similar interests and want to visit the same locations as yourself!

You can read more on Metaversum’s Twinity here!

Personally I could not care any less if a company recorded information abotu what i bought, searched for or similar, I would prefer to have adverts relevant to me rather than an inbox full of, to put it bluntly, bullshit.

I find this move a hysterical response to an ‘internet phenomenon’ and that this is just anotehr example of nanny state behaviour appearing from the EU. Many internet companies succeed becasue tehy can see that a certain number of people like certain things, if this information is removed or becomes unreliable the tax losses for governments nationwide will be pretty damn big as companies go under and new ones cannot start.

I use google keyword stats regularly so am more than well aware of how advert targetting is imperative to the survival of small business on the internet.

Yes it seems I was hit by the Digg Effect - Although in this case at the instigation of Slashdot.

It seems my Article on Google Chrome was quite popular.

In the matter of 10 minutes my site was hit by 30,000 unique visitors and suspended by servage, after that in the next hour my server reported a further ~700,000 unique hits. Firstly let me say, this is the most popular response any of my articles has ever had, I was actually quite heartwarmed by the fact that from the first snippet of my post enogh people were interested to push this to the top of Slashdot.

So for that reason I would like to offer both my heartfelt thanks and apologies to everyone who read my article and to those who could not access it!

In the meantime, although my sever rental has just been renewed, I am going to begin looking for a more robust host who will see me through traffic surges!

Google Chrome is Googles second foray into the world of Internet browsing software. Google Chrome itself was released yesterday and is available to download on the google website at http://www.google.com/chrome for free. The best thing about the new Google Chrome web browser is undoubtedly its new Back End, unlike nearly all other internet browsers Chrome has the unique feature of running each tab and window with its own process, this has several significant benefits.

Memory Usage

Browsing Speed

Crash Protection (Not Recovery)

Visual Management

Security

So lets take a more indepth look at this brand new web browser. As the graph shows Google Chrome is by far one of the fastest running browsers available. Although some may argue that currently this is down to Chrome having next to no additional features it is hard to deny that its new multi process backend is having a significantly positive effect on performance. Web pages load quickly and smoothly, with few errors.Javascript performance is also incredibly advanced in chrome, the following graph tested by CNet Australia shows quite simply staggering results. In every single test Google Chrome shows outstanding Java results. This means that for teh majority of sites you load you will see a heavily increased performance with significantly reduced loading times.

Memory Usage Memory Usage is Google Chromes next big advantage. Because Chrome uses several processes and therefore independent memory blocks whenever you close a window or tab google will completely kill that process and the memory block it used. Compare this to current browsers where no matter how many windows you open and close the browser has just one memory blog it modifies. This unfortunately means that slowly but surely the amount of memory used grows as fragments of data do not get cleared when you close a window or tab. This is why after 5 hours of using Firefox or IE you may find memory consumption reaching 400MB even though you only have one page open, with Chrome your computer will openly be loading the memory it requires for what you have open.

Crash Protection Chrome has fantastic crash protection. Because Chrome has a single process for each and every window or tab if an error occurs in one window or tab it will ONLY affect that window or tab if you have several tabs in one window. This is great news for anyone who has seen one website error cause 40+ tabs to shut down at the same time losing your work, research and more. This also would tend to happen in the past when one would use a poor PDF converter tool, that didn’t always operate efficiently.

Visual Management Because Chrome has a process for each tab you open it means that the tabs can be moved from window to window, converted into a new window or simply re-arrange them with very little fuss. re-organisation of tabs uses only a few kilobytes of memory as it affects only a few functions! The amount of versatility in this does not sound that good until you try it, I suggest you give it a go today!

Security By separating processes Google Chrome allows you to section off a browser window to be fully secure. In this window no personal data is passed into your machine, protecting you from data theft and fraud! These security windows keep what you surf and what information you enter private. So why do I hate this fantastic browser? Well it is in beta, there is no available addon management even though it is open source and I cannot, no matter how hard I try, make this my default browser!! Hopefully though a few weeks will turn the Google Chrome Web Browser into a 100% stable and addon compatible internet Browser!

For those who keep abreast of Google’s latest announcements you may be aware that a google comic book (Here) was released to the public yesterday outlining Googles new internet browser – Google Chrome.

While there are no screenshots yet Google Chrome is set to have a beta released today!

So why should you go for Google Chrome? Well the Google comic points out all the pros of Google Chrome, but in a rather technical sense, so I am going to cut things down and make it all just a little bit simpler for you!

First off, Google Chrome is not just your average web browser, it has been designed from the ground up to work with todays applications. To do this it runs every new object through a new process. Oppose this to current browsers which run a single process for everything.

This gives three major benefits to you the internet browser.

Speed – Instead of things loading one at a time Google Chrome streamlines the downloading of webpages by assigning processes to each and every element

Stability – If something crashes, usually a java script, it normally closes every single window and tab you were browsing, with Google Chrome if you suffer a crash it will only crash that elements process, meaning only one tab/window will close!

Resources – In current browsers a single process picks up and manages a single block of memory in your system. Slowly but surely as you close and open items this increases in size as fragments of data do not get removed from your system. In Google Chrome because you are running several processes with several memory assignments your computer can easily clean up your memory every time you close a webpage.

Ontop of these groundbreaking advances in web browser technology Google Chrome continues with Google’s clean sharp and intuitive interface, making it my top choice for future web browsing!

If this wasn’t enough for you remember that Google Chrome will be 100% free, addon and modification friendly and it WILL be open source, so expect a huge number of addons to be released by the general public soon!

Instinctiv – Smart Shuffle Application for the iPhone!

You can get Instinctiv here!

The iPod shuffle became a big hit, but what if you could shuffle 8 gig of tracks with a feature that learnt what you liked? The Instinctiv software for the iPhone randomly plays tracks like the iPod shuffle, but unlike the shuffle instinctiv learns what tracks you like and which you don’t, slowly filtering your music so it will play what you like the most more often. This smart shuffling is always switched on with my iPhone, guaranteeing that as soon as I press play I get tracks that I want to hear! This is so far the best Smart Shuffle Utility for the iPhone that I have found!

Recently however things took a turn for the worse, long gone were the days when you could download free movies from the internet and instead you found cheap cinema copies, riddled with poor sound and viruses. That of course was if you managed to get the right film.

Today I decided that I was going to go for a paid film downloading service at The Movie Downloads. After all, for $34.95 for life (I decided against the monthly $2.49 plan) I was given access to a fast, reliable and genuine service, when I had trouble downloading one film they actually checked up on it and gave me a new link within minutes!

Here you can download any film or TV series you want (within reason, some older stuff may be more difficult to find!)

If you are looking for a reliable source to download full movies and tv programs I would recommend you give The Movie Downloads site a shot, even if you just decide to try it for a year for less than $30 you will find yourself saving loads of money from buying DVDs and even more time by avoiding poor quality slow and mislabelled film downloads!
