Windows 7

Windows 7 is the next generation of Windows after windows Vista.  There is not much currently known about wWindows 7 at this version in time appart from that seen from some vague screenshots and that it has been changed from Vienna to Windows 7 to signify ‘Simplicity’.

Persoanlyl I think XP is simple enough, and that any attempts to make windows simpler will result in complete loss of fnuctionality.

400GB Blu-ray Disks!

Pioneer Blu-ray 400GBPioneer have today announced that they are working on (And can demonstrate) a 400gb Blu-ray like disk.  While not yet compatible with current bluray technology it does use very simlar techniques, for this reason they are hoping to make it backwards compatible.

Playstation 3 Meet the Xbox Standard with Player Stats Tracking

We recently noted how Microsoft’s XBox Live community had a player rankings system built into its online community, full with roaming controller configurations and so on.

Sony have announced today that they will be releasing a new hardware upgrade v2.40 for the Playstation 3 to keep up with this, pretty good, idea.  Patch 2.4 is primarily allowing access to a PlayStation 3 online database of player information, friends lists custom game settings and game rankings.  The full list of released upgrades is as follows,

  • Friend category
  • View, send, receive messages via your Playstation 3
  • Manage downloads
  • Set the vibration feature of the PS3 controller

AMD to take on Intel Dominance

AMD Gaming Excellence StickerAMD have today announced that they will be bringing out a standard for excellence on gaming machines.  Any machine that meets this standard will be allowed to display a sticker noting that it is either at gaming, or pro gaming level.

This seems to be a specific stab at Intel when they announced an integrated graphics/processor chip, something that could increase PC Performance but may damage competition.

Microsoft says end of HD DVD won’t hurt Xbox 360

As the reports were coming that Toshiba Corp. is going to discontinue HD DVD technology, it seemed rather possible that it will be affecting the Microsoft XBox 360 Gaming console. But Microsoft in a statement yesterday, said that this is not expected to affect sales of its Xbox 360 game console.
