New Hack weds the XBox 360 and a Wii Remote Controller

Taking Halo or Call to Duty to a whole new level, Hackers have created an Wii IR Remote sensor and driver to port the trademarked remote setup to the Xboc 360. This latest hack turns the epic video game and console into a full fledged killing simulator.

Course, that’s not all the Xbox is good for. There’s sports games like Madden NFL, MLB Baseball or Tiger Woods Golf, there’s even hack and slash games like The Elder Scrolls. Imagine firing a phaser for the latest Star Trek Legacy game, or Battleing for Middle Earth in The Lord of the Rings… Continue Reading»

Playing Xbox 360 with your Wii remote

An adventurous and skillful modder has managed to turn a Wii remote into an Xbox 360 controller with middleware help from the PS2 control scheme — it’s as if all the console makers are working in harmony for this one hack. Try humming this to the tune of “Dem Bones” (actually, don’t, because we’re not even going to try to fit the rhyme scheme):

  • The Xbox 360 is connected to the XFPS PS2 to 360 adapter
  • … which is connected to a big black box Microcontroller “with custom firmware emulating a PS2 controller”
  • … which

Now that there’s a decent number of Virtual Console games, we can imagine having a hard time making a selection. Siliconera’s Spencer Yip has provided both the Japanese top 20 (left) and the US top 20 (right) for comparison. We don’t know exactly how the popularity of these games is determined. As Spencer mused, “It’s not clear if these games are popular because they are the top selling Virtual Console… Continue Reading»

Yet another skateboard variant

boom-bordaSkateboarding has clearly evolved with time, and today there are many variations of the skateboard running around. The Boom Borda is the latest in a long line, featuring an environmentally friendly skateboard that hails from the UK. A 400 watt electric motor powers it, letting you go up to 15 miles (on flat ground presumably – steep, ascending gradients will probably suck a whole lot of juice) per charge. A digital handheld radio pistol grip controller is used to control it, and you can zip along at a top speed of 25mph – assuming you… Continue Reading»
