Cheap iPhone: Only for $299

Apple today announced that it would be selling its new 4GB “iPhone Leper” for as low as $299. This is very good news for iPhone fans. I was myself planning to buy my ‘Dream gadget’ but couldn’t afford it, I think now I can (until I rob a bank). Everybody is talking about iPhone, and I couldn’t stop myself to grab this news… Continue Reading»

Apple Launchs iTunes Widgets.

    myitunes.PNG

A surprisingly open move for a company that’s normally closed: Apple has just launched My iTunes, a series of embeddable widgets to post your iTunes purchases, iTunes reviews and iTunes favorites to your blog or profile page. The drawback: the widgets don’t actually play any music, they simply list artists and songs with links back to iTunes.

Apple quietly handling iPhone touchscreen issues?

It doesn’t appear to be particularly widespread, but according to a couple threads on Apple’s support forums and elsewhere, a small number of iPhones are suddenly getting “dead spots” on their touchscreens — mostly along the bottom, but occasionally affecting the entire surface. Apple is apparently being extremely proactive in dealing with the issue, calling customers who’ve posted in their forums and arranging replacements — the company can’t let anything tarnish the image of The Most Important Device Ever, after all. All of our iPhones are still working great (even… Continue Reading»

Apple hit with two new class-action lawsuits

Apple, despite (or because of) all its successes and odds-beating triumphs, still can’t shake the occasional class-action suit being thrown its way. This week is no different, as the company sees not one, but two separate claims laid on its doorstep. The first hails from Florida, where two righteous citizens have filed suit against Apple alleging the company has “recklessly disregarded” consumers’ rights. According to the suit, a law which prevents credit card information from being displayed on receipts has been ignored by the company, and if Apple is found to… Continue Reading»

Man has thumbs altered to improve iPhone dexterity

This story isn’t for the faint of heart. In fact, we wouldn’t really recommend it for anybody, but we’ll soldier on regardless. Thomas Martel hails from Colorado, and after upgrading to an iPhone, he decided his big hands were just too much of a burden to bear. “From my old Treo, to my Blackberry, to this new iPhone, I had a hard time hitting the right buttons, and I always lost those little styluses,” says Martel. So what’s a man to do? Why, get those digits downsized, of course. Thomas… Continue Reading»

New iMac Impressions and Full Hands-On

IMG_1132.jpgYou’ve seen our hardware video and gallery (below again for your viewing pleasure) and know all about the New iMac’s specs. I guess it’s time to take an extended look at it, and I might as well turn on the Justin.tv lifecam [UPDATE: Done with the Lifecam]. I also just got back from Cupertino where I learned some details which I’ll write about in this post, in a bit. I might try to answer some of the questions you guys have about the new hardware and iLife, too.

Shadow Lamps Turn Your Friends into Live iPod Ads

649981471_0d44a4fe0a.jpgMelding tradition and technology, shadow lamps are a new way of keeping up with your friends in Japan. Less intrusive than a web cam, the system pipes a live video feed from your friends houses via the internet, and projects their silhouettes onto a lampshade - rather like the iPod commercials. The inspiration, according to creator Shunpei Yasuda, comes from the paper walls found in traditional Japanese houses.

Users of the system are identified by a smart card, which slots into the base of the lamp, or andon, where there is a projector. By swapping cards… Continue Reading»
