Metaversum – Twinity
Virtual worlds are nothing new, from world of warcraft to second life our virtual online escapes vary from the fantasy to the social.
Now however Metaversum have begun to trial the virtual reality Twinity, a bridge between the real and the virtual by allowing you to visit real world locations walk the streets of the cities and see some of the worlds most famous landmarks.
It is true that this will never replace the real experience of visiting a city, but I can see a billion uses of Metaversum’s Twinity. Finding hotels you would like to visit, checking out monument locations, seeing if tourist attractions really are as good as advertised. An of course walking around the Twinity virtual world for an hour or two will give you some familiarity with a city that you plan to visit.
As some of my readers may know I love to travel, and I would be lying if i said I had not got lost in pretty much every city I have visited, my sense of direction is not so much bad as appalling.
Either way I am very tempted to download this as soon as it comes out, as the first city they are going to release on the Metaversum Twinity platform is Berlin, somewhere I hope to visit next year!
On top of being able to see the virtual worlds you will also be able to meet other people interested in seeing the same locations as yourself, this suddenly gives a new scope for finding travelling partners who have similar interests and want to visit the same locations as yourself!
