Can TV Companies Stop You From Digitally Recording?
A lot of TV Viewers who are hooked on their DVR/Hard Drive Recorders have been extremely annoyed of late since CBS’s survivor has repeatedly failed to record on many peoples Digital TV Recording Equipment, wether it be DVRs or DVD/HD Recorders.
While CBS have denied purposely blocking peoples recorders this does leave rather a serious question…
Can TV Broadcasters prevent you from recording shows?
The short answer is ‘yes’. They have the technology and the ability to stop your device from picking up when to start recording, and even stop it immediately after it begins.
You then have to ask a rather more important ‘Will’ they stop you from recording TV shows?
The more age enriched of my readers will be more than aware of the fact that when VCR first came out there was a huge uproar from TV producing companies at how much money they were losing due to piracy. At that point in time TV companies couldn’t do anything aboutit though and eventually succumbed to public opinion.
We just have to hope that TV companies start charging for you to record their broadcast shows, something that is also technically possible in this day and age.
