What is a Stumble worth
Many a times I keep wondering, “How much traffic will my stumble get to this Blog Owner”. Well, we have got an answer for that now.

StumbleUpon is the best social bookmarking site out there. It is a favorite of both, blog owners as well as Stumblers. Blog owners get the much needed traffic and the Stumblers ‘find New Sites’. But have you ever wondered, as a blog owner or a Stumbler or both, how much a stumble is worth. I have always wondered that and now, after about two months of research and experimentation I have an answer.
What I did:
I experimented with three of my blog and about 25 URLs and found round about similar results as I have given below. But to make you understand I am mentioning only a single URL. I have used old URL and new URL for better understanding:
OLD URL= http://www.geekywood.com/2007/10/essential-social-networking-
and_23.html
NEW URL= http://www.geekywood.com/2007/10/essential-social-networking-and-
bookmariking-toolbars-and-extensions.html
First of all I installed redirection plugin for Wordpress. This plugin makes it possible to redirect URL without editing you .htaccess file. It also records the number of successful redirects.
Then I made one of my friends submit a link of mine to StumbleUpon. The link was This. When it was submitted, I quickly edited the post slug. Now all the StumbleUpon visitors who came to the old URL were redirected to new URL and thus could not review or vote the old URL. Actually if they stumbled the article, they would stumble the new one and not the old one. This way I got only a single review of my page and knew exactly how many visitors it got. One review got me exactly a 100 visitors, nothing less nothing more. After about 3 days, I changed the slug again and redirected the new URL to somewhere else. Now I told one of my friend to give my article at old URL a stumble. He Stumbled and I changed the Slug again after that Vote and also did the redirection thing. Now, this time my article got 30 visitors from this Vote up.

This experiment and this article of mine will give you just a jist of what a Stumble normally value. But a Stumble can not have this value all the time. A lot depends on the user who submits the page, number of his fans, number of sites he has given up votes and the number of sites he has voted down. There are many more reasons that determine the value of a Stumble. You can get a sneak peak of the StumbleUpon algorithm at Venture-skills
What do you think? Have you observed similar traffic from StumbleUpon?

A more effective test would be testing content across various subject areas to create some form of average. Different content areas get a little different love.
Interesting theory.
Awesome! Clear instructions, just what we need. Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to implement this.
