How to Convert your HD-DVD to Blu-Ray

With Toshiba recently ending the High Def. war and surrendering HD-DVD production, it becomes rather necessary to make your pile of HD-DVD worth something by converting it to any other media which will be supported by popular players in the coming years. This guide will take you through the process of converting your collection of HD-DVD to Blu-ray. I saw this on Wired wiki, doom9 forum and a couple of others, but they were complex. I have tried to simplify this process as much as I could and you are welcomed to add anything in the comments.
What Hardware will you Need
- A Windows machine
- A Blu-Ray burner
- An HD-DVD drive
- And atleast 40 GB of free memory on your Hard Drive
What Software will you need
- EVOdemux
- TsRemux
- tsMuxeR
- H264Info or vc1conv (based on the Type of HD-DVD you have)
- eac3to for compressing the HD audio track
- Nero HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Plugin for compressing the HD audio track
- Sonic Cineplayer DVD Decoder Pack for compressing the HD audio track
- TSSplitter for Blu-Ray burning
- DVDFab HD Decrypter for ripping HD-DVD onto Hard Drive
Now that you have downloaded all the above software and ripped your HD-DVD to your hard disk and the file is in .EVO format , follow the following steps:
-
Open EVOdemux and point it to .EVO file from your HVDVD_TS folder.
Select the Video/Audio tab and make sure you only have one tick in the H.264.stream.0 box and one tick in the highest quality audio track available. Select the Subpicture tab and uncheck all options. - Click start > run and type in cmd. Click ok.
In the MS-DOS window navigate to your eac3to folder and run the command:
Load up tsMuxeR and add in your video file from H264Info or vc1conv and your audio file from eac3to. Change the fps to 24000/1001.
Select .ts muxing and enter an Output filename Then click on Click on Start muxing - Load up TsRemux and drag in your video.ts file created from tsMuxer. Check both the video and audio option and
select Blu-Ray as the Output Format. You may also want to change the chapter points to 10min intervals. If you have a Blu-Ray burner click on Remux. If you want to author to a DVD-5 or a DVD-9 AVCHD you need to alter the Trim Beginning and the Trim End to achieve the correct output filesize. - Open Nero(or TSSplitter) and choose Blu-Ray / DVD or UDF disc. Then change the UDF version manually to 2.5. You have to turn multisession off. Drag both your BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders to your disc structure and burn.
You are done now. Just enjoy the HD-DVD on your Bu-Ray burner.
