Electronic Arts announced on Friday that Tony Hawk killer Skate will ship to retail on September 12 for Xbox 360 and September 24 for PS3. EA will also release a demo to Xbox Live Marketplace on August 15.

The downloadable demo features game play tutorials and a single level introduction to the game’s “Flickit” controls where players use analog sticks to pull of combos in lieu of button mashing. The demo also allows for video captures of skate session which can be shared online at www.skate.ea.com for other players to view, rate and comment on.

Skate is EA’s attempt to cash in on the highly lucrative skating genre pioneered by the widely successful Tony Hawk series. To counter EA’s launch, Activision will release Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground on October 9, it being the ninth title in the franchise.
